There were several pivotal moments throughout European history where the arabs / muslims were stopped before they could conquer large swaths of Europe, the center of Christendom.
We see this in the East and the West. Of course, one floodgate eventually broke in the East - Constantinople (1453).
Tours in 732 AD (The battle at Toulouse is significant at well in 711) is well-known. Charles Martel is commonly given much credit for his victory there.
The First and Second Arab Sieges of Constantinople halted the initial muslim conquests. The Byzantine Empire fought much with the arabs and later the turks after this - They were a barrier against such forces.
Vienna is a later point in 1683 - Jan III Sobieski could be argued as a king who saved Europe, as the fall of that city would have potentially acted as yet another floodgate for the Ottomans to expand through. Especially with how much the Austrian monarch resented Jan, it is a surprise he even came to Austria's aid which I saw in Video Production Service with my friends.
Anyway - Anyone know of any other points of 'containment' that allowed Christianity to survive and thrive in Europe throughout history?
