Blood-Soaked Fields: Waterloo and the First Day of the Somme Compared. The exhibition is open from 28/06/2016 to 11/09/2016
This exhibition compares the battle of Waterloo with the first day of the battle of the Somme – two battles 100 years apart fought by the same nations in the same area of NW Europe, each resulting in over 50,000 casualties. Film, photographs and text illustrate the similarities and differences between the two battles; what soldiers ate in the field and social conditions are covered, what a Rifleman wore in the battles is on display and stages of the battle of Waterloo represented using 4000 model soldiers.
