West Virginia won their first game of the their three game trip to Spain on Tuesday afternoon, beating the Madrid All Stars, 97 69.
Six West Virginia players scored in double figures, as every player made at least one basket on the day. Forward Emmitt Matthews scored 17 points to lead the way, just barely topping center Logan Routt, who finished with 16 points. Freshman guard Miles McBride and senior Chase Harler added 14 points a piece. Sean McNeil hit a couple of tough threes late to get to eleven points, while big man Derek Culver had ten points.
The Mountaineers got off to a great start, scoring on three of their first four possessions, while also keeping Madrid from making a field goal for the first seven minutes of the game. That gave Bob Huggins squad a cushion they maintained for the rest of the game, leading at the end of the first quarter https://www.wvubasketballjersey.com/chase-harler-jersey-c-8.html, 20 10. The one thing Huggins was not pleased with in the first quarter, though, was his team s inability to hold onto the ball. West Virginia turned it over seven times in the first ten minutes.
The team adjusted in the second quarter, though, only turning it over once in the next ten minutes. The issue during that time and Huggins let his players know about it was shot selection. The team was often jacking up contested threes early in the shot clock. Madrid was unable to hit their own shots to make WVU pay, however, and the Mountaineers went into the break up fourteen.
In the second half WVU Customize Jersey, Madrid made a brief run in the middle of the third quarter, cutting it back to single digits, but the Mountaineers answered a few moments later https://www.wvubasketballjersey.com/jevon-carter-jersey-c-9.html, eventually pushing the lead to 25 halfway through the fourth quarter and garbage time ensued.
