Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported a proposed deal between the Pens and Canucks that he credited to multiple sources. “A proposed deal would send Kesler to the Penguins in exchange for Brandon Sutter, two 2014 draft picks — likely a first- and third-round — and the Canucks choice of defensemen Simon Despres or Brian Dumoulin,” Rossi wrote on Saturday. Rossi continued to say that it is possible the deal could involve another player going in either direction, but that Penguins GM Ray Shero was only looking to acquire Kesler. Goalies Gone Wild The Minnesota Wild are apparently very much in the market for an upgrade between the pipes. According to Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Wild GM Chuck Fletcher is after a netminder and was even in on discussions for former Buffalo keeper Ryan Miller before getting priced out. So, who fits the bill for Minnys playoff push? Russo drops a lengthy list that spans from new Sabres acquisition Jarsolav Halak to established number ones like Martin Brodeur and Cam Ward to enigmatic Oilers netminder Ilya Bryzgalov. Snowfall Warning? Could this be Paul Stastnys last week as a member of the Colorado Avalanche? The Denver Posts Adrian Dater writes that if the Avs are unable to get the 28-year-old re-upped before the deadline, they could deal him rather than risk losing him for nothing over the summer as an unrestricted free agent. "You want to keep winning and dont want to break that chemistry, but at the same time if something happens, it happens. Its just part of the business. Some things I cant control and I just worry about what I can control — and thats playing hockey," Stastny told the Post. Dater believes the Avs could probably expect a young defenseman in return and one that might still have time left on an existing deal or, if not, a pending restricted free agent. Call Me, Maybe? Jaromir Jagr is an intriguing name to watch prior to Wednesday. The 42-year-old just became the NHLs seventh 700-goal scorer and – as a pending unrestricted free agent – could be an attractive veteran addition for many teams as they push towards the post-season. But the iconic Czech winger cautions that any team looking for his services should probably run it by him first. “The situation with me is I think if any team would try to trade for me they would probably ask me first if I wanted to go there,” Jagr told the Star-Ledger after the New Jersey Devils Saturday win over the New York Islanders. “I dont have a contract (for next season) and Im 42 years old. What if I decided to go home? Nobody is going to give any draft picks or players for me if they dont know. “Same thing happened when I went to Boston (from Dallas last season). They called before. So Im probably going to know whats going on before.” Alexander Mattison Womens Jersey .com) - Guard Greivis Vasquez and forward Patrick Patterson, two key pieces to the Toronto Raptors run to an Atlantic Division title in 2013-14, were both given qualifying offers by the team on Saturday. However, arriving flights were still trying to catch up.Super Bowl Sunday got off to an inconvenient start for hundreds of passengers trying to get to Phoenix for the game.PHOENIX - Give Pete Carroll the opportunity to campaign for someone or something he believes in and hell gladly jump at the chance.Usually its for a player, or a cause. But Carrolls drive this year was getting recognition for general manager John Schneider, the co-architect of the Seattle Seahawks rise who usually tries to avoid the spotlight. He has just worked tirelessly to continue to compete, to find guys to make this a healthy, competitive roster, Carroll said. I mean the hundreds of changes in the first year was just trying to find guys. The continuation of that, it changed in terms of the numbers, but the attitude, the approach, John just continued to battle for it.I dont know how he couldnt be recognized with the drafts that hes had, with the free agency success hes had, with the success of our lower draft picks that have come through.Five years after being selected by Carroll to be the second piece of the Seahawks hierarchy, Seattle is in a second consecutive Super Bowl thanks largely to a roster constructed by Schneider. Hes received little recognition for what Seattle has accomplished during his tenure and while Schneider doesnt care, Carroll would like to see him honoured. His insight and his ability and really the creativity that he brings couldnt have been more obvious, Carroll said. But the rest of us, I dont know. Were just playing a game and were a team. But I think his situation here really should stand out and should be recognized. The 43-year-old Schneider has not rested on what Seattle has accomplished during his tenure, to the point where the Seahawks were holding pre-draft meetings this week in Arizona leading up to Sundays game against New England. Asked recently if he could have imagined Seattles success after five years, Schneider said he cant look at two conference titles and four playoff appearances from a broad perspective. We are so focused and consumed about getting better in every area on a daily basis that it has just built like that over the years, Schneider said. I know you guys have heard me talk about being a consistent championship-calibre team. And with that comes really tough decisions, like, every day. Obviously, its what you strive for..ddddddddddddEverybody just kind of knows that. We dont talk about it. Yeah, of course everybody wants to be a world champion, everybody wants to win Super Bowls. But the manner in which we did it was a blast, the whole group. The culture that we are in is just awesome. While Schneider and Carroll are 20 years apart in age, they often act like brothers. That relationship developed in the first few months of their partnership when Seattle went through hundreds of roster transactions trying to remodel its team. They often pull lines from movies like Step Brothers in meetings to lighten the mood. Its a cool relationship because John will come through and check with coach all the time, every move hes going to make. Coach will go ahead and say I agree with you, but at the same time theyll have their differences and they always come to an agreement and theyre always on the same page, said Nate Carroll, an assistant coach for Seattle and Petes son. Its very powerful. Its a comfortable setting to work in. Those guys are great. What Schneider has constructed relies on a mix of elements: Hitting on gems in the draft more often than not; discovering undrafted free agents that can contribute; and sprinkling in key free agents when it fits the Seahawks financial structure.Schneider knows time is running out for having so many key contributors playing for cheap by NFL standards. Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, K.J. Wright and Michael Bennett are all taken care of for at least a few more seasons. But looming is an expected new deal for quarterback Russell Wilson this off-season.It presents challenges, there is no question. We havent sat down with his representatives, Schneider said. We are still going to be drafting young players and playing young players, so we might not be able to dip into free agency like you may want to here and there or compensate somebody else that you want to compensate that is already on your team. But just the fact that were going to continue to keep drafting players and playing young players should help us compensate for whatever level of compensation (Wilsons contract) is.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL ' ' '
